What We Are Studying:
What is Genre Study???
Glad you asked! Genre study is a way to teach students how to read by studying a variety of a genre. We will study one genre at a time, emrsing students in that genre. We will study characteristics of that particular genre, how to read that genre, things to look for, why authors write that tpye of genre, and discover tools that will help us understand a variety of reading genres!
I use the research based from the Fountas and Pinnell study. We will emerse ourselves in a genre analyzing a HUGE selection of text. We will look at books of all sorts to learn about the genre unit we are in.
Students will be required to check out at least one book from the library each week from the genre we are currently studying in class!
I encourage you to ask your child questions about the books they are reading. Share with them your favorite genres to read!
